Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful as it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. I'm glad to hear you got it sorted out. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was? Also, just curious, have you had any other electrical gremlins pop up since they fixed it? I'm trying to figure out if I should brace myself for more issues down the line.

Hey again! Great news, I just got my X5 back from the mechanic and they fixed the lighting issue! My case was actually simpler than initially thought. Turned out it was just a faulty light switch after all, there was a bad cable connection that needed fixing. Total bill came to 95 € which was way less than I expected, especially after my dramatic first post about corroded connectors and moisture damage! Since the repair a couple weeks ago, everything's working perfectly, no more crazy light shows! All my switches work just like they should, and those stubborn low beams finally turn off when I want them to. Haven't had a single electrical gremlin show up since. Honestly, I feel a bit silly now for making such a big deal about it in my first response. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the right one, right? Definitely recommend getting yours checked out, might be a quick and relatively cheap fix like mine was. Hope you get yours sorted soon! Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for letting me know how it turned out! Well, I actually took my car in yesterday and I feel pretty relieved now. After hearing about your experience, I found a reputable shop and had them take a look. Funny enough, my problem was more complicated than yours, they found that corroded LCM connectors were the culprit, along with some water damage in the wiring harness. The repair took about six hours and cost more than I hoped, but at least it's fixed properly now. The mechanic showed me the old parts and explained everything, which I really appreciated. They even applied some extra sealant to prevent future moisture problems. Been driving it for a day now, and what a difference! All the lights work perfectly, no more error codes, and my battery isn't getting drained anymore. Definitely worth every penny to have it done right. Thanks again for sharing your story, it really helped me make the decision to get it fixed sooner rather than later. Now I can finally drive at night without worrying about my lights having a mind of their own!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2012 BMW X5 35i last year. The symptoms were almost identical, lights had a mind of their own, especially the low beams staying on. After struggling with it for a week, I took it to a garage. Turned out the Light Control Module (LCM) connectors were corroded, and there was a damaged wire harness near the module. The mechanic found moisture had gotten into the connection points. It wasn't just a simple switch issue like I initially thought. It was definitely a serious electrical problem that needed immediate attention, driving with faulty lights isn't safe, plus it can drain your battery. The repair involved cleaning the connectors, replacing the damaged wiring, and resealing the module to prevent future moisture damage. The job took about 4 hours but it fixed the problem completely. If you're seeing similar symptoms, I'd recommend getting it checked soon, electrical issues tend to get worse if left unattended. Hope this helps with your decision!
