BMW X6 Oil Pressure Warning Signals Engine Risk

Hey car enthusiasts, need your input on a concerning issue with my 2023 BMW X6 (gas engine, 142k km). My oil pressure warning light keeps coming on, and I'm hearing some nasty engine noises. The diagnostic scan shows engine oil pressure control problems. After a bad experience with my previous mechanic, I'm hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their X6? What was the actual problem, and can you recommend what to look out for when discussing this with a mechanic? Thanks in advance!

I had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW X5 40i last year. The oil pressure warning and engine noise turned out to be a failed oil pump. Initially thought it was just a sensor problem, but the mechanic found metal particles in the oil indicating internal wear. The repair required removing the oil pan and replacing the entire oil pump assembly. Also needed to flush the system thoroughly to remove any metal debris. It was definitely a serious issue, oil pump failure can cause catastrophic engine damage if not addressed quickly. My advice: don't drive the car until it's checked. Oil pressure problems aren't something to ignore. When talking to mechanics, ask them to specifically check the oil pump, pressure relief valve, and have them do a proper oil analysis. The metal particle check in the oil can tell you a lot about internal engine wear. Had mine fixed at a certified shop specializing in European cars. It took about three days for the complete repair, but better safe than sorry with these high-performance engines.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! It's really helpful to hear from someone who went through something so similar. I'm relieved I caught this early, just like you did. The oil pump situation sounds exactly like what might be happening with mine. By the way, how much did you end up paying for the whole repair? And has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Just trying to get a sense of what I might be looking at here.

Hey there! Glad I could help with my previous insight. Just wanted to update you, yeah, the repair ended up costing me 755 € at the certified shop, which included replacing the oil pump and doing that thorough system flush I mentioned. Since getting it fixed, my X5 has been running like a dream, no more scary warning lights or those worrying engine noises! It's been about a year now, and honestly, I haven't had a single oil pressure issue since. The mechanic really knew what they were doing with these BMW engines. Quick tip though, I've been extra careful about regular oil changes since then, maybe even a bit earlier than the recommended intervals. Better to be on the safe side with these sophisticated engines, you know? Trust me, getting it properly fixed was totally worth every penny compared to risking major engine damage. Let me know how yours turns out, always curious to hear about similar cases!

Thanks for the update and sharing those details! I actually took your advice and got my X6 checked out last week. You were spot on, it was the oil pump giving up. What's funny is I ended up paying almost the same as you did for the repairs. I was really nervous about finding a good mechanic, but I lucked out. Found this experienced tech who actually showed me the worn-out parts and explained everything. They did the whole works, new pump, system flush, the lot. The noise completely disappeared, and that annoying warning light is finally off. It's such a relief to have it fixed properly. Car's running super smooth now, and I'm definitely following your tip about those early oil changes. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, helped me avoid what could've been a much bigger headache if I'd kept putting it off. What started as a scary situation turned out okay in the end. Guess sometimes you just need to bite the bullet and get things fixed right away!

Hi, please tell me what to do. I changed the oil pump, but it continues to display low oil pressure and the light is on.
