Hey, thanks for sharing your experience with the X5! Glad to hear it wasn't a major repair job. Quick question, would you mind sharing how much you ended up paying for the master switch replacement? Also, has everything been working smoothly since the repair, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks? Always good to know what to expect down the road with these BMWs.

Hey there! Happy to give you an update on my X5's window situation. After I got it fixed, it's been working like a charm, no issues whatsoever! The master switch replacement was definitely the right call. I actually had a similar window regulator problem later on, but got that sorted too. All in, I paid about 200€ for fixing the power window switch issue. Money well spent if you ask me. I know you were worried about your mechanic, but honestly, these kinds of electrical fixes are pretty straightforward for any decent BMW specialist. Since the repair, all my windows have been going up and down smoothly, no more electrical gremlins! It's such a relief not having to deal with stuck windows anymore. Just a heads up though, keep an eye on those window switches. Even after repairs, it's good practice to keep them clean and dry to prevent any future corrosion. My X5's been running great since the fix, and I haven't noticed any other electrical quirks. These BMWs are solid cars when you take care of them properly. Hope this helps with your decision! Let me know if you need any other info about the repair.

Thanks for all that detailed info! I bit the bullet and took my X6 to a different mechanic yesterday. Turns out you were spot on, it was the master switch unit! The mechanic found similar water damage and corrosion issues. The repair took about two and a half hours, and I paid slightly more than you did, but honestly, I'm just happy it's fixed. All windows are working perfectly now. The new mechanic also gave me some tips about maintaining the switches and keeping them dry, which I really appreciated. What a relief it wasn't something more serious like multiple window regulators! The new shop was way more professional than my old mechanic, they explained everything clearly and even showed me the corroded parts. Definitely sticking with them for future repairs. Thanks again for helping me avoid unnecessary worry and pointing me in the right direction. It's great to have all windows working again, especially with summer coming up!

I had almost the exact same issue with my 2015 BMW X5 35i last summer. Initially, all windows stopped responding at once, which is typically a sign of a master switch failure rather than individual regulators. The master control switch in the driver's door was the culprit in my case. Turns out water had gotten into the switch assembly over time, causing corrosion on the electrical contacts. Not a super serious repair, but definitely needs fixing as it affects all windows. Had it fixed at the shop in about 2 hours. They replaced the entire driver's door master switch unit. The windows all worked perfectly after that. If all your windows stopped working simultaneously, chances are you're dealing with the same issue, not individual regulators. Just make sure to get a warranty on the new switch, these electrical components can sometimes be finicky.
