Thanks so much for sharing your experience! Really helpful to know about the moisture and gel pad issue. I've bookmarked your explanation to share with the mechanic. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been working perfectly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks?

Hey again! Happy to update you on my experience. Just got it fixed last week actually, the total bill came to 62 € for sorting out those pesky bubbles under the gel pad. Such a relief it wasn't something more serious! Everything's working like a charm now, the rain sensor kicks in perfectly, and those unusual warning lights have completely disappeared. The auto headlights are responding exactly as they should too. It's amazing how such a small thing like air bubbles could cause so many issues! The mechanic did a really thorough job with the gel pad replacement. They made sure to properly seal everything this time, so hopefully no more moisture will sneak in there. I've been keeping an eye on it, and after a week of driving in various weather conditions, I can confirm it's all working perfectly fine. Honestly, I'm just glad I didn't ignore those warning signs, could've turned into a bigger headache if left unchecked. Let me know how yours turns out!

Thanks for the detailed follow-up! I actually just got back from the mechanic today, and what a relief! My issue turned out to be pretty similar, but they found some corrosion around the sensor connections too. The total repair came to a bit more, around 95 €, since they had to clean up the corrosion and replace some wiring along with the sensor unit. Got to test it out during my drive home, and wow, what a difference! All the warning lights have disappeared, and the rain sensor is working perfectly again. The auto headlights are responding just like they did when the car was new. The instrument cluster lighting is back to normal too. The mechanic showed me everything they replaced and explained the whole process. Really appreciated their transparency, definitely a better experience than my last repair shop. I'll be sticking with them from now on. Thanks again for helping me understand what I was dealing with. It really helped me feel more confident going into the repair!

Hey there! I had a similar situation with my 2016 BMW X4 last summer. Those symptoms match exactly what I experienced, unusual warning lights, rain sensor and auto headlights failing simultaneously. When I took it to the garage, they found that moisture had gotten under the gel pad where the rain-light sensor sits on the windshield. The moisture created air bubbles, which interfered with the sensor's function. These bubbles were barely visible to the naked eye, but they were enough to disrupt the sensor's operation. The fix required replacing the entire rain-light sensor unit and the gel pad. It wasn't just a simple sensor swap, they had to carefully remove the old adhesive and prep the surface properly. While it was a bit complex, it wasn't a major mechanical issue that affected the car's core functions. Tip: Make sure they check the windshield seal around that area too. In my case, a tiny gap was letting moisture seep in, which would have caused the problem to repeat if left unfixed.
