Thanks for sharing your experience! My X6 has been well maintained with 15879 KM and last service was right on schedule. The issue seems most noticeable during cold starts and gets particularly bad when making sharp turns. I'm getting error code 4x44 on my diagnostic reader, which points to the transfer case module. Based on what you're saying about the ABS sensor, that's definitely worth checking out, could save me a bunch of money if that's the culprit rather than the entire transfer case. Did your repair cost a lot when you had it done? I'm planning to take it to a shop next week, but wanted to get some insight before I go in.

Hey again! Thanks for the additional info about your X6. Yeah, mine was showing similar symptoms, that cold start behavior is exactly what I experienced. When I got mine fixed, the ABS sensor replacement and recalibration cost me around €400 including labor, which was way better than what I initially feared might be a transfer case rebuild. Just to share more from my experience, after they fixed the sensor, it took a couple of drives for everything to settle back to normal. The computer needed some time to relearn the proper settings. The jerking during turns completely disappeared after that. One thing I forgot to mention in my first reply, before taking it to the shop, I actually tried disconnecting the battery for about 30 minutes to reset the system. It helped temporarily but the problem came back, which was another sign pointing to the sensor rather than the transfer case itself. That error code you're getting (4x44) sounds similar to what I had. In my case, it was triggering false readings because of the bad ABS sensor, making the system think there was a transfer case issue when there wasn't. Let me know how it goes at the shop next week. I'm really curious if your issue turns out to be the same as mine. Fingers crossed it's just the sensor!

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! This definitely gives me more confidence heading to the shop next week. I actually tried the battery disconnect trick you mentioned last night, had the same experience where it seemed better for a short while but then went back to acting up. Hearing that your repair was only €400 is such a relief, I was honestly bracing myself for thousands! You really helped me understand what might be going on with those ABS sensors and how they can trick the system. I'll make sure to mention this to the mechanic when I take it in. It makes total sense now why the problems get worse during turns and cold starts. I'll keep you posted on what they find, really hoping it's just a sensor issue like yours was. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's been super helpful!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2011 BMW X5 last year (I'd say I have some experience working on cars). Those symptoms sound really familiar, my X5 was acting up just like your X6. Since BMW's X-Series shares a lot of components, this caught my attention. In my case, it turned out to be an ABS sensor malfunction that was confusing the transfer case control module. The workshop diagnosed it under warranty, and it was just a matter of replacing the faulty sensor and recalibrating the system. The transfer case itself was perfectly fine. Could you share what error codes you're getting specifically? Also, have you noticed if the problem gets worse in certain conditions (cold starts, turning, etc.)? Knowing these details would help figure out if you're dealing with the same issue I had. Before you go spending money on transfer case repairs, definitely get those ABS codes checked out first. Sometimes what seems like a major transfer case problem is just the system going into protection mode because of sensor issues.
