Thanks for sharing your experience! That definitely sounds similar to what I'm going through. My X6 is making all those same awful noises. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair job? Also, have you had any other transmission issues pop up since getting it fixed? I'm trying to figure out if I should prepare for more problems down the road. Thanks again for all the helpful details and tips about the transmission flush. Really appreciate it!

Hey again! Just wanted to follow up, I finally got the repair bill receipt from my records. The total came to 2120 € for fixing that troublesome torque converter. Trust me, while it wasn't cheap, it was totally worth it. My X5 has been running like a dream since the repair! The grinding noises and all those transmission problems completely disappeared after they fixed the automatic transmission torque converter lock-up clutch. It's been over a year now, and I haven't had a single transmission issue pop up. The car shifts smoothly, accelerates perfectly, and those annoying warning lights are long gone. Honestly, once you get it fixed, you'll probably wonder why you didn't do it sooner. Just make sure they do that transmission flush I mentioned before, it really helps prevent any future problems from popping up. If you're still worried about future issues, my mechanic told me these repairs typically last a long time when done properly. Just keep up with regular maintenance and you should be good to go! Let me know how it works out for you!

Thanks so much for sharing those details! I ended up taking my X6 to a mechanic yesterday, and guess what? You were spot on, it was the torque converter! The grinding noise was driving me crazy, but they sorted it all out. The final bill came to around 2300 € including parts and labor. A bit more than I wanted to spend, but at least the car's running properly now. They did everything you mentioned, replaced the converter, flushed the transmission, and changed the filter. The mechanic even showed me the metal bits they found in the old fluid, pretty scary stuff! Took it for a test drive this morning and what a difference! No more weird noises, shifts like butter, and those warning lights are finally off. Such a relief to have it fixed properly. Thanks again for all your advice, it really helped me know what to expect and what to ask for at the shop. Fingers crossed it stays running smoothly like yours has! Best decision I made was getting it fixed right away instead of waiting for more problems to pop up.

Hey there! Had almost identical issues with my 2011 BMW X5 35i last year. The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I experienced, sluggish acceleration, grinding during shifts, warning lights, and limp mode. Initially, I thought it might be something minor, but it turned out to be a defective torque converter. At the garage, they found metal shavings in the transmission fluid, which confirmed the converter was failing. It was definitely a serious repair job, had my car in the shop for nearly a week. They had to remove the entire transmission to replace the torque converter and flush the system to clear out all the metal debris. The mechanic also recommended replacing the transmission fluid pan and filter while everything was apart. Quick tip: If you're getting this fixed, make sure they do a thorough transmission flush and check the solenoids too. Those can get damaged from the metal particles floating around. This isn't something you want to put off, driving with a bad torque converter can cause even more damage to your transmission. Hope this helps.
