BMW X7 Air Pump Issues Causing Multiple Engine Problems

Thanks for sharing that! My X7 has 23322 KM on the clock, and I just had it serviced last month. Now that you mention the sound, yes, actually! I've been hearing this faint whirring noise from the engine bay, especially during cold starts. Really helpful to know about that hose connection issue you had. Was your repair covered under warranty? Mine should still be under warranty, but I want to have some idea of what I'm dealing with before heading to the dealership.

Hey again! Always good to follow up on these issues. Yeah, that whirring noise you're describing sounds exactly like what I experienced with my X5. Mine wasn't under warranty anymore when it happened (just my luck!), but with your 2022 X7 and only 23K kilometers, you should definitely be covered under warranty. When I got mine fixed, the mechanic showed me the damaged hose, it had a tiny crack that was causing all those symptoms. The whirring noise is basically the pump working overtime trying to compensate for the air leak. What's interesting is that my symptoms started pretty much the same way, cold starts were when I first noticed it too. I'd definitely recommend taking it to the dealership since you're under warranty. They've got all the proper diagnostic tools and should be able to sort it out quickly. When they fixed mine, they actually ended up checking the entire air system just to be safe. Better to get it all checked while it's covered, right? Quick tip though, make sure to document that whirring noise (maybe record it on your phone) before you take it in. Always helps to have evidence of the symptoms, especially with intermittent issues like these. Let me know how it goes at the dealership. Would be interesting to see if it's the same issue I had!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's a really smart idea about recording the sound, I'll definitely do that before heading to the dealership. Just recorded a quick video this morning during cold start, and the whirring noise is super clear on it. You've honestly made me feel a lot better about this whole situation. It's such a relief to know someone else dealt with the same problem and got it sorted without any major hassles. I've already called the dealership and booked it in for next week. I mentioned the symptoms you described, and they seemed to know exactly what I was talking about. The service advisor even brought up checking the hose connections right away. Really glad I asked here before going in, at least now I won't feel completely in the dark when they start explaining things. Will definitely update you once I get it sorted. Thanks again for all your help!

Hey there! I had a pretty similar issue with my 2020 BMW X5 last year. When you mentioned those symptoms, it instantly reminded me of my situation, especially that secondary air pump problem! Took it to my regular workshop and they found a damaged hose connection between the pump and valve. The whole repair, including parts and labor, set me back about 175 Euro. They sorted it out in about half a day. I initially tried diagnosing it myself, but these modern BMWs can be tricky to work on without proper diagnostic tools. Quick question, did you notice any unusual sounds from the engine bay before the check engine light came on? Also, what's your mileage? Knowing these details might help confirm if we're dealing with the same issue. The X series can have slightly different setups even within the same generation.
