BMW X7 Power Loss and Speed Issues: CVV Problem?
Summary of the thread
A 2022 BMW X7 is experiencing power loss, speed fluctuations, and an engine light issue. The suspected cause is a faulty crankcase ventilation valve (PCV), similar to a previous case with a BMW X5 where the PCV system was clogged. The suggested solution is to have the PCV system checked and possibly cleaned, along with the intake valves, to resolve the issue. The owner plans to have the vehicle inspected soon, hoping for a straightforward fix.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Currently at 56701 KM, and no, haven't noticed any excessive oil consumption or smoke. Just had my service last month, which makes this even more frustrating. The power drops are really unpredictable, happened twice just yesterday. Good to know the fix wasn't super complicated in your case. Definitely going to get it checked out this week. Really hoping it's just the PCV system and nothing more serious. The car's been great otherwise, so this came as a bit of a surprise.

Hey again! Glad you got back to me. You know, hearing about your mileage and recent service actually reminds me even more of my situation. My X5 was also fairly fresh from service (about 6 weeks out) when these issues started popping up. And I was at around 54000 KM at the time. The fact that you're not seeing any smoke or oil consumption is actually a good sign. When my PCV system failed, it was a clean failure too, no other symptoms besides the power drops and speed fluctuations. Those unpredictable power drops you mentioned, twice in one day, that's exactly how mine started acting up. Just to share a bit more detail from my experience: after they fixed the PCV system, they also recommended cleaning the intake valves while they were at it. I went ahead with it since they already had everything apart, and honestly, I think it helped with the overall performance. The total job took about 4-5 hours. Let me know what your workshop says when you get it checked. Given how similar our situations sound, I'd bet we're dealing with the same issue. And hey, if it helps ease your mind, my X5 has been running like a dream for the past year since the fix.

Thanks so much for all the detailed information! Really appreciate you taking the time to explain everything. It's actually quite reassuring to hear how similar our situations are, especially the mileage and post-service timing. I've already called the workshop and booked it in for tomorrow morning. They seemed pretty interested when I mentioned the PCV system, so fingers crossed it's a straightforward fix like yours was. Good tip about the intake valve cleaning, I'll definitely ask them about that while they're working on it. Four to five hours doesn't sound too bad for the complete job. Makes me feel better knowing yours has been running perfectly for a year after the fix. Will update you once I get the diagnosis, but looking at all the similarities, I'm pretty confident we're dealing with the same issue. Thanks again for all your help!

Hey! I have some experience working on BMWs and faced something very similar with my 2020 BMW X5 last year. The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I went through, that unusual power loss was really annoying. Took it to my workshop, and yep, it was the crankcase ventilation system. They found it was completely clogged up and not functioning properly. The fix wasn't too complicated, but it set me back about 360 Euro for parts and labor. Since the repair, my X5 has been running smoothly with no more power issues. What's your current mileage and have you noticed any oil consumption or smoke from the exhaust? This info would help confirm if we're dealing with the same issue. BTW, I'd recommend getting it checked soon, driving with a faulty PCV system isn't great for the engine.
