BMW X7 Power Loss and Stalling, Fuel Mixture Problems?
Summary of the thread
A 2022 BMW X7 is experiencing power loss, rough running, stalling at idle, and failed emissions, with a suspected fuel mixture issue. A similar case with a 2020 BMW X5 was resolved by replacing a faulty fuel injector, which was causing improper fuel spraying and affecting the fuel mixture. The symptoms, including increased fuel consumption and gradual onset of issues, align with a potential injector problem. It is suggested to check the injectors, possibly replacing all for long-term reliability, and to monitor when symptoms occur for more accurate diagnostics.

Thanks for the detailed response! Last service was done 2 months ago, currently at 81378 KM. The issues started gradually over the past week or so. No weird sounds during acceleration, just the jerking motion I mentioned. Really helpful to hear about your injector experience, sounds spot on with what I'm experiencing. Did you notice any fuel smell or increased consumption before getting it fixed? Just trying to confirm if I'm dealing with the same thing before heading to the workshop. Your fuel injector fix seems like a solid lead to follow up on.

Hey again! Yes, now that you mention fuel consumption, that's exactly what I noticed too with my X5 before getting it fixed. My fuel economy went downhill pretty bad, was using about 15-20% more fuel than usual. Though surprisingly, I didn't notice any strong fuel smell. The gradual onset of your symptoms matches my experience perfectly. Mine also started showing issues over about a week or two, first with slight jerking, then the power loss got worse, and finally the CEL came on. The mileage you're at (81K) is actually pretty close to when mine started acting up too (around 75K). Just a heads up, when I got mine fixed, they recommended changing all injectors since they tend to wear at similar rates. I only changed the faulty one to save money, and honestly, it's been fine since. But if you've got the budget, might be worth considering all of them for peace of mind. Quick tip from my experience, keep track of when these symptoms occur (like if it's worse when the engine's cold or after it's warmed up). That helped my mechanic diagnose it faster. Let me know how it goes when you get it checked out!

Thanks so much for all this info! Super helpful to hear about your experience, especially the fuel consumption part. Mine's definitely drinking more fuel lately too, so that really confirms my suspicions. I'll make sure to track when the symptoms are worse, now that you mention it, it does seem to act up more when the engine's cold. Good call about potentially changing all the injectors too. Might be worth the extra cost to avoid dealing with this again soon. I've got an appointment at the workshop next week, and I'll definitely have them check the injectors first based on your experience. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all this detail about your X5's issues. Feels much better going to the mechanic with a solid idea of what might be wrong. I'll update the thread once I get it sorted out!

Hey there! I've got some experience working on BMWs. Had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW X5 last year. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I dealt with, turned out to be a faulty fuel injector. My local workshop ran diagnostics and found one injector wasn't spraying fuel properly, messing up the whole fuel mixture. Had to get it replaced, cost me around 515 Euro, but it fixed all those issues, the rough idle, power loss, and CEL. Before I can help more specifically, could you share: Current mileage? Whether these issues started suddenly or gradually? Any unusual sounds when accelerating? BTW, I also own a BMW M3 and comparing both, these injector issues are something to watch out for in the X series. The fix made a huge difference, car runs like new now. Let me know those details and I can share more about my experience!
