BMW X7 Power Seats Stopped Working, Troubleshooting Help
Summary of the thread
A 2022 BMW X7 owner is experiencing a complete failure of the power seat adjustment system, with neither manual control nor memory function working. An error code is present, suggesting an issue with the electric seat system. A similar case with a BMW X5 was resolved by addressing faulty wiring connections to the seat control module, including damaged cables and corroded plug connections. The suggested solution is to have a certified BMW specialist inspect and potentially replace the wiring harness and connections to prevent further issues.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm also dealing with a similar issue on my X7 (127594 KM on the clock). And yes, actually I do hear that clicking sound you mentioned when trying to move the driver's seat, but the passenger side is working fine. Really helpful to know about the wiring harness, that makes a lot of sense given the symptoms. Just had my service done last month and they didn't notice anything unusual with the seats then. Hoping I can get this sorted without a major repair bill. Would you mind sharing the name of that workshop that helped you? Sounds like they really knew what they were doing.

Hey again! Thanks for confirming those details about your X7. That clicking sound you're hearing is exactly what I experienced with my X5, it's like a telltale sign of the wiring issue. And the fact that only your driver's side is affected while the passenger seat works fine? That's pretty much identical to what I went through. Since you mentioned the recent service, it's worth noting that these wiring problems can develop pretty quickly, especially with seats that get regular use. In my case, it started working intermittently before failing completely. What's interesting is that when my X5 had this issue, it had around 115,000 KM on it, so pretty close to your mileage. I'd strongly recommend getting it checked soon though, in my case, waiting too long meant the corroded connections started affecting other seat functions too. Initially, it was just the basic movements, but then the heating and memory functions started acting up as well. By the way, after they fixed mine, they advised me to periodically check the seat connections for any signs of wear, apparently, it's a known weak point in these models. Been doing that every few months now and haven't had any issues since. Sorry but I'd rather not share specific workshop details in the forum, but any certified BMW specialist should be able to diagnose and fix this. Just make sure they have experience with seat control modules. Let me know how it goes with the repair. Always happy to share more details about my experience if you need them.

Thanks so much for all the detailed info, this is exactly what I needed to hear! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, especially about how the problem can escalate to affect other seat functions. I definitely won't wait around on this one. You've pretty much convinced me it's the same wiring issue you had with your X5, especially with that clicking sound being so similar. No worries about the workshop info, I'll check with some certified BMW specialists in my area. Actually, got a couple in mind already that have good reputations for electrical repairs. I'll make sure to get it looked at this week before it gets worse. Really grateful for all your help, this kind of firsthand experience is invaluable. I'll update the forum once I get it fixed in case anyone else runs into the same problem.

Hey there! I have some experience with BMWs and had a very similar issue with my 2020 BMW X5 last year. I faced the exact same symptoms, complete power seat failure and error codes. Took it to my trusted workshop, and it turned out to be a faulty wiring connection to the seat control module. The mechanic found some damaged cables and corroded plug connections. The repair was pretty straightforward, they replaced the wiring harness and connections. Cost me about 95 Euro and fixed the problem completely. By any chance, do you hear any clicking sound when trying to adjust the seats? Also, are both driver and passenger seats affected? Would help to know these details to confirm if it's the same issue I encountered. Before taking it in, I'd also suggest checking your BMW X7's warranty status, might save you some money if it's still covered. I also own a BMW 3 Series, but haven't had any seat issues with that one. Let me know these details, and I might be able to share more specific insights about what worked in my case.
