Thanks for sharing your experience! I have about 126510 KM on my X7, and just had my service last month. Actually, I did have some bodywork done on the rear quarter panel about two weeks ago after a minor parking lot incident. That timing seems suspicious now that you mention it! I'd really appreciate if you could share more details about where they found the loose connection in your case. Maybe I can check the same area before heading to the dealership. The more I can learn about this, the better prepared I'll be when talking to the mechanic.
Hey again! Based on what you're saying about the recent bodywork, I'm now even more convinced it's likely the same issue I dealt with. When they repaired my X5, the loose connection was specifically located in the wiring harness near the rear wheel well, right behind the trunk liner. Since you had work done in that area, there's a good chance the body shop might have accidentally disturbed the wiring while doing the repairs. In my case, the technician showed me that the connector block for the alarm siren had partially separated from its mounting point due to vibration over time. But in your situation, it might have been knocked loose during the body repairs. Mine was a pretty quick fix once they located it. If you're comfortable with basic car inspection, you could try removing the trunk liner panel on the side where you had the bodywork done and look for any obvious disconnected or loose wiring. The siren unit should be visible once you get the panel off. Just look for a black cylindrical component with wiring attached to it. But honestly, given that you've just had bodywork done there, you might want to take it back to the body shop first. They should at least check it out since the alarm was working fine before their repair. That's what I would do in your situation, especially since it started right after their work.
Thanks so much for all this detailed information! You've definitely given me a good starting point. I'll contact the body shop first thing tomorrow and explain the situation. Makes total sense that they should take a look since everything was working perfectly before their repair. I feel much more confident now knowing exactly what to ask them to check, especially that wiring harness area near the wheel well. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and the specific details about the connector block location. I'll update here once I get it sorted out. Fingers crossed it's just a loose connection like in your case!
Hi there! I had a similar issue with my BMW X5 2019 last year, and I have some experience working on cars as a hobby mechanic. The symptoms were exactly the same, no sound when locking/unlocking and a completely dead alarm system. Took it to my regular workshop and they found it was just a loose connection in the alarm siren wiring harness. The cables had worked themselves loose over time causing the communication error. Total repair cost was 95 Euro for diagnostics and fixing the connection. Before you head to a shop though, what's your car's mileage and have you noticed any other electrical issues? Also, has your X7 been in any minor accidents or had any recent work done near the rear of the vehicle? This could help pinpoint if it's the same issue I had. If you want, I can share more specific details about the repair process. My workshop also showed me exactly where the problem was, which might be helpful for you to check.
