BMW XM Power Loss & Jerking: Lean Fuel Mix Mystery
Summary of the thread
A 2023 BMW XM experienced power loss, rough running, and jerking during acceleration, with a check engine light indicating a lean fuel mix. The issue was traced to faulty fuel injectors, which were clogged and unable to deliver the correct amount of fuel. The suggested solution was to have the injectors replaced and the fuel system cleaned, ideally under warranty to avoid high repair costs. After following this advice, the car's performance returned to normal, resolving the symptoms.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! That's really helpful, especially since it sounds so similar to what I'm dealing with. Can't remember if you mentioned the cost, how much did you end up paying for the injector replacement and cleaning? Also, have you had any other issues pop up since getting it fixed? Just want to know what to expect after the repair. I'll definitely take your advice and get it to the dealer right away. Really hoping it's covered under warranty like you said!

Hey again! Happy to give you an update! The repair cost me 515 € for the injector replacement, but it was totally worth it. Since getting it fixed, my X6 M has been running like a dream, no more jerking or power loss issues. The mechanic found the engine was running too lean because of that faulty injector, but once they replaced it, everything went back to normal. Haven't had a single problem since the repair, which was about 6 months ago now. The engine's performance is back to what it should be, smooth and powerful, just like when it was new. Best money I've spent on the car, honestly. But yeah, definitely get yours checked under warranty while you can! No point paying out of pocket if you don't have to. These performance engines are amazing but can be pretty expensive to fix when things go wrong. Let me know how it goes with the dealer. I'm curious if they find the same issue with yours!

Thanks for the follow-up! Just wanted to let you know I took your advice and got the car checked. You were spot on about the injectors! Got really lucky since it was fully covered under warranty. The dealer found two faulty injectors and replaced them right away. Figured I'd share what happened since you were so helpful. The whole ordeal took about three days, but what a difference! Car's running perfectly now, that annoying jerking is completely gone and the power delivery is smooth again. They also did a full system cleaning while they had it apart, so it feels even better than before. Really glad I didn't wait around on this one. The service advisor mentioned the same thing you did about preventing engine damage. Guess I dodged a bullet by bringing it in early! Thanks again for pushing me to get it checked under warranty, saved me a bunch of money and headache. The car's been back home for a week now and running like new. Really appreciate your help with this!

Hey there! I experienced very similar issues with my 2020 BMW X6 M. The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I went through, especially that jerking during acceleration and power loss. My diagnostic showed a faulty fuel injector. Had to take it to the garage where they confirmed one injector was completely clogged and another was starting to fail. They had to replace both injectors and clean the entire fuel system. It was a serious job since bad injectors can really damage your engine if left unfixed. The whole thing took about two days. Not going to lie, this kind of repair is significant for these performance engines. But given yours is a 2023, it should still be under warranty. Get it checked ASAP to prevent any further engine damage. These symptoms won't fix themselves and usually get worse over time. The lean condition you mentioned makes sense, that's exactly what happens with faulty injectors. They can't deliver the right amount of fuel to the engine. Best get it to the dealer while it's under warranty. Good luck!
