BMW Z4 AC Smells & Blower Failure, Need Help!

Blower does not work properly

Hi everyone! Got some worrying issues with my 2018 BMW Z4 (79,913 km). The AC's acting up, getting strong smells when I'm stuck in traffic, plus there's an error code for the recirculation sensor. The blower's completely dead too. Has anyone dealt with similar AUC sensor problems? What was your repair experience like and what did it cost? Thanks in advance for any help!

I had a similar issue with my 2015 BMW M4 last summer. The symptoms match exactly what I experienced, blower failure and that nasty smell in traffic. Turns out the main culprit was a faulty cable connection to the AUC sensor, which also affected the blower motor. The repair wasn't too complex, technician had to replace the wiring harness for the sensor and check all the connections. They also cleaned the evaporator while they were in there since these issues often come as a package. Not a serious mechanical problem, but definitely something you want to fix soon to avoid any potential damage to other AC components. Make sure they check the blower motor resistor too, in my case, it was fine, but it's a common failure point with these symptoms. Hope this helps with your decision. Take care

Thanks for sharing your experience! Really good to know that it was just a wiring issue, that sounds less scary than what I was imagining. Can you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since they fixed it? Just want to get an idea of what I might be looking at cost-wise and if it's likely to be a long-term solution.

Hey there again! Great news, I can confirm everything's been running perfectly since I had it fixed. The AUC sensor issue hasn't shown up again, and the nasty smell completely disappeared. I paid 95 € for the repair, which was mainly for fixing that faulty cable connection. Pretty reasonable considering I was worried it might be something much more expensive! The mechanic actually showed me the corroded connection when they found it, it was such a small thing causing all that trouble. They did a thorough job testing everything afterward too, so I felt confident it was properly sorted. It's been about 8 months now, and the AC's still working like new. No more error codes, no funky smells, and the blower's working perfectly. Definitely worth getting it sorted, you'll probably find it's a similar straightforward fix for yours too. Let me know how you get on with the repair!

Thanks for all that detail! Just wanted to update you all, got it checked out today and you were spot on! Turned out to be pretty much the same issue. The mechanic found a corroded wire connection and some buildup around the sensor. The final bill came to around 120 for parts and labor, which wasn't too bad at all. They did a full system check while they were at it, cleaned everything out, and got the blower working again. Such a relief it wasn't anything major! Took it for a test drive after, and wow, what a difference! No more weird smells, the AC's blowing nice and cold, and that annoying error code is gone. Really glad I got it sorted before summer hits full swing. Thanks again for sharing your experience, helped me avoid a lot of worry and knew what to expect when I took it in. Sometimes these luxury cars can be a bit finicky, but at least this was a pretty straightforward fix!
