Boxer Automatic Transmission Problems

Having trouble with my 2003 Peugeot Boxer diesel. It's got about 277k km on the clock. Lately, the automatic transmission has been acting totally bonkers! The shifts are all over the place, sometimes it feels like it's stuck in one gear, and the transmission indicator light keeps popping on. It's not shifting as it should, and sometimes it goes into this weird emergency mode. I'm thinking maybe it's the transmission oil? Any ideas?

I had a similar issue with my Boxer. Same symptoms – crazy shifting, the light coming on, and that emergency mode thing. Have you checked your battery or alternator recently? Turns out, undervoltage can really mess with the automatic transmission's computer.

Undervoltage, huh? That's interesting. I haven't checked the battery specifically, but the van starts fine every time. Could it still be that even if it seems okay? How did you figure out it was undervoltage in your case?

Yeah, even if it starts fine, the voltage might be dipping low enough to cause problems with the transmission control unit. In my case, the mechanic hooked it up to a diagnostic tool and saw the voltage fluctuating. Best bet is to get it checked out properly. I ended up going to a workshop, and they told me my transmission oil was worn out because of the undervoltage issue. They replaced it, and the problem was gone.

Thanks a bunch! I'll definitely get the battery and charging system checked out ASAP. It's good to know it might be something relatively simple (and hopefully cheap!) like that. I really appreciate the tip! I had the oil replaced as you suggested. Cost me around 240€, but the van is running smoothly again!
