BR V diesel cold start PTC heater problem

Has anyone experienced poor engine running during cold starts, increased fuel consumption, and a possible PTC heater issue with their 2016 Honda BR-V diesel?

Summary of the thread

The conversation centers around a 2016 Honda BR-V diesel experiencing poor engine performance during cold starts, increased fuel consumption, and a suspected PTC heater issue. The PTC heater, which helps warm up the engine faster, might be malfunctioning, causing the engine to take longer to reach optimal temperature. A suggested solution is to have the PTC heater checked and possibly replaced by a professional technician to resolve the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Oh wow, your symptoms sound quite familiar! I also drive a BR-V diesel. I had something similar happen last winter. My BR-V was blowing cold air in the beginning, and my fuel consumption went up too. I'm not exactly a car expert, but I remember reading somewhere that PTC heaters are basically like little electric radiators that help warm up the engine faster, especially in diesel engines, because they take longer to heat up than gasoline engines. Did you notice if your car takes longer than usual to warm up completely?

Thank you for your swift response. I must admit, I had not explicitly considered the warm-up time. Now that you mention it, the engine does seem to take longer to reach its optimal operating temperature. Could you elaborate on how you resolved the issue in your vehicle?

Well, unfortunately, I am not very technically skilled and couldn't do much on my own. I took it straight to the workshop after experiencing those initial issues. They confirmed it was the PTC heater and replaced the heating element. I know it wasn't cheap, but it solved the problem completely. Maybe getting it checked out professionally would be the best course of action in your case too?

I appreciate your insights. Based on your experience, it seems prudent to consult a qualified technician. I shall schedule an appointment with a trusted workshop to assess the PTC heater and obtain a professional diagnosis. Thank you once again for sharing your experience and providing valuable guidance.
