Brake problems on 2004 Ford Maverick: Looking for experience and advice on workshop repairs

ABS/DSC system is not working

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Brake light not working

ABS warning light

Unresponsive brake pedal

Hi guys, I have a problem with my 2004 Ford Maverick (gasoline, 139081 km mileage). The ABS warning light is on, the brake pedal is not responding, the ABS system is not working, the brake light is not working and the warning light in the speedometer is on. I fear there is a problem with the brake pedal position sensor. Have any of you experienced anything like this before and could share your experience of getting it fixed at the garage? Because my last experience wasn't that great and now I'm worried. Many thanks in advance!

Moin mate, that sounds like a real problem. I experienced a similar case with my 2007 Ford Escape. The time and mileage didn't change the problem. In my case it was a fault in the control unit that caused all these problems. I was initially worried about all the indicator lights, but the garage then confirmed that the control unit was faulty. Unfortunately, I had to have the entire unit replaced because repairing the old one would have been too tricky. So your assumption could be correct. It's a serious problem, of course, but it's no reason to panic. Usually such problems are solvable. I recommend you take your car to the garage as soon as possible. Good luck, hopefully it's nothing too serious!

Hey, thanks for your helpful answer! Wow, that must have been pretty expensive... Do you happen to remember how much you paid for the new control unit and the work in the workshop? And has anything else been added to the repair since then? It's always good to be prepared when I know what to expect... Thanks in advance and best regards!

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! The defective control unit cost me just under €1000. It wasn't just the part itself, but also the replacement in the workshop and that's just a lot of money. But since then my Ford Escape has been running like a dream again. Oh yes, and your suspicion at the time about the brake pedal position sensor was also the case with me afterwards. But that was a while after the first problem. I took it to the garage and the problem has been solved ever since. It's better to have everything checked and repaired in good time than to have more damage later on. I hope I was able to help you and wish you good luck with your Maverick! Best regards back!

Guys, it's really great to have you - thanks for the great input! So I guess I'll have to expect to get rid of around €1000... that's a lot of money of course, but safety comes first and I really want to avoid getting into more trouble later. After all, my safety when driving depends on it. Many, many thanks again for the detailed information and experience reports, they have really helped me! I'll take the Maverick to the garage tomorrow and hopefully the mechanic will be able to fix the problem just as well as you did. Have a nice evening everyone and see you next time!
