Bravo AC Not Cooling
Summary of the thread
The AC in a 2008 Fiat Bravo diesel has stopped cooling and doesn't switch on, possibly due to a valve or relay issue. Potential causes include a non-engaging AC compressor clutch or low refrigerant levels. Checking the compressor clutch involves observing if it spins with the pulley when the AC is on, while refrigerant levels are best checked by a professional. Given the complexity, taking the car to a workshop is recommended.

How exactly would I check the AC compressor clutch, and where is it located? Also, how do I check the refrigerant level without special tools? I haven't noticed any unusual noise, but I will pay more attention next time I start the car.

Checking the compressor clutch can be a bit fiddly if you're not used to it. With the engine running and AC switched on, see if the front part of the compressor pulley (the clutch) is spinning along with the rest of the pulley. If it's not, it's not engaging. As for refrigerant level, without gauges, it's tricky. You can sometimes see if there's pressure by pressing the valve on the low-pressure side, but honestly, it's best to get a professional to check that. Given it's not switching on at all, might be worth taking it to a garage.

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation. Based on your advice, especially regarding the refrigerant check and compressor clutch, I think it is best to have a workshop take a look at it. I suspect the final repair cost could be around 1000€, which is not insignificant. I appreciate the help!

AC issues are super annoying. Have you checked the AC compressor clutch to see if it's engaging when you turn the AC on? Sometimes, that's the culprit. Also, check the refrigerant level; could be low and triggering a safety switch. Any weird noise when you try to turn on the AC?
