Buick Regal Sunroof Blind Stuck, Fix Guide

Thanks for the response. Just had my last service at 129943 KM and they did flag a potential electrical issue but not specifically with the sun blind system. The sunroof itself works perfectly fine, no issues there. The window visor control makes a slight clicking sound but no grinding noises. The problem appeared suddenly after a few warning messages on the dash. No signs of water damage or leaks around the sunroof area. The UV protection blind just seems completely unresponsive now, stuck halfway. Would attempting a system reset potentially help before going for the full motor replacement?

Thanks for those additional details, this situation sounds nearly identical to what I experienced with my Buick LaCrosse Hybrid. The clicking sound from the window visor control is exactly what I heard before the complete failure. Since your symptoms match mine so closely (working sunroof, clicking sound, sudden onset, no water damage), its very likely youre also dealing with a failing sun blind motor. While a system reset is worth trying, it probably wont fix the underlying hardware issue. When my UV protection blind failed, I tried these resets first: Holding the sunshade button for 30 seconds, Disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes, Manual emergency operation None of these worked, and the clicking sound was the key indicator that the motor needed replacement. Given your mileage and the recent electrical warning, I would recommend getting the sun blind motor replaced soon to prevent potential damage to other components. The repair process should be similar to what I went through with my vehicle. The good news is that once the motor is replaced, the sun blind system typically works trouble-free for many years.

Thanks everyone for the detailed responses. Just wanted to update on my Buick's car sunshade situation. I went ahead and tried the system reset by disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes, but as suggested, it didn't resolve the issue. The clicking sound from the window visor control actually got worse. Took it to the workshop yesterday and they confirmed its a faulty motor in the interior accessory system, exactly as predicted. They quoted me 4-5 hours labor time plus parts, coming in around 400 for the complete sun blind replacement and recalibration. Going ahead with the repair next week since I dont want to risk any additional damage to the sunroof mechanism. Really appreciate the advice about trying the basic fixes first but knowing when to accept that a proper repair is needed. Will update once the work is done in case anyone else runs into similar issues with their sunroof blind system.

As someone with moderate experience maintaining hybrid vehicles, I had a similar issue with my 2019 Buick LaCrosse Hybrid. The car sun blind stopped responding completely, showing an error message just like yours. The problem turned out to be a failed motor in the sun blind mechanism. While the UV protection blind looked fine externally, the internal motor had burned out. Initially tried resetting the system by holding the switch, but this didn't resolve the issue. After taking it to a workshop, they diagnosed a faulty motor unit in the car blind assembly. The repair involved: Complete removal of headliner, Replacement of the sun blind motor, Recalibration of the system Total repair time was about 4 hours, costing 330 Euro including parts and labor. The UV protection system has worked flawlessly since the repair. To provide more specific guidance for your case, could you share: Does the sunroof itself still operate normally? Are you hearing any grinding noise when pressing the blind controls? Did the issue start suddenly or develop gradually? Have you noticed any water damage around the sunroof area? These details would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced with my vehicle.
