I haven't checked the pads, and I am not sure about the last brake fluid replacement. If air got into the system, is that something I can fix, or should I take it to a shop?

Introducing air into the braking system can compromise its effectiveness, as air is compressible, while brake fluid is not. This could severely affect braking performance. While bleeding the brakes is possible DIY, it's crucial to do it correctly, or you risk making things worse. Given the pulsing in the pedal, it might be worth having a brake inspection done professionally. It's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to car brakes.

I took it to a local shop. The front pads were completely shot, and the rotors were scored. They did a fluid replacement as well. The total came to 480€. The brake pedal feels normal again.

Low brake fluid in a Mercedes, especially with that mileage, is often linked to worn brake pads. As the pads wear down, the caliper pistons extend further, requiring more fluid from the master cylinder. Do you know when the brake fluid was last replaced? Have you inspected the pads? If the fluid is very low, there is a risk you could have air in the system. I drive a C Klasse too, and similar issues were indeed worn brakes.
