C Klasse tailgate issues hall sensor fault

My 2005 Mercedes C Klasse with a gasoline engine has an error stored about the automatic tailgate not fully opening. I'm guessing a cable or plug issue with the hall sensor. Has anyone seen this before? I think the repair will be around 95€.

I had something similar on my C Klasse. Tailgate acting up, same symptoms, with error codes pointing to the hall sensor. Before you jump to conclusions about wiring, have you checked the basics? I mean, really checked. Visually inspected the sensor wiring harness for any obvious damage or loose connections? Could be something simple like a corroded connector. Also, is the sensor itself properly seated? Maybe someone bumped it.

When you say properly seated, what exactly do you mean? And where exactly is the hall sensor located? I can visually check it, but I don't want to mess with anything I shouldn't.

By properly seated I mean making sure it's physically secure and aligned correctly. As for location, it's usually integrated into the tailgate locking mechanism itself. Honestly, if you're not totally comfortable poking around, and since you're already seeing error codes and suspecting wiring, it might be best to get it checked out by a shop. Could save you from making things worse. Faulty hall sensors can also cause issues, so they'll probably check the sensor wiring and then replace the sensor.

Took it in and it was the sensor wiring! They ran a diagnostic, confirmed the sensor fault, and did some sensor calibration after fixing the wires. Total cost was almost exactly what I expected. Thanks for the push to just get it sorted!
