C1 Crankshaft Camshaft Reference Value Issue

My 2005 Citroen C1 diesel is showing a check engine light, reduced power, poor throttle response and increased fuel consumption at 143245 km. OBD codes point to a 'Crankshaft to Camshaft Reference Value' issue. I'm thinking it's a defective crankshaft sensor. Anyone seen this?

I had a similar issue with my C1. The engine light plus the performance issues sound familiar. Have you checked the cam sensor as well? Sometimes it can throw off the reference value even if the crank sensor is the actual culprit.

The diagnostic data suggests a synchronization issue between the crankshaft and camshaft. Can you give me more details on checking the cam sensor? Were there any voltage or resistance measurements that were off?

To be honest, I'm not that technically savvy. I just took it to a workshop when the light didn't go away after replacing the crank sensor. They told me it was a timing issue and sorted it out. Might be worth getting it checked professionally.

I'll get a qualified technician to do a full diagnostic. It ended up needing a new crankshaft sensor and engine timing recalibration, costing 340€.
