C1 Rain Sensor Fault

Hi, I've got a 2007 Citroen C1 diesel with only 29018 km on the clock. Recently, I've been having some weird electrical issues. The error memory keeps logging a rain-light sensor fault. Because of this, the automatic wiping mode in the rain doesn't work, neither does the automatic headlight control, or the speedometer dimming. And now the lights stay on all the time. Any ideas what could be causing this?

That sounds like a malfunctioning sensor alright. Have you checked for any visible damage to the sensor unit itself, or the wiring harness connected to it? Is the windshield original?

I haven't spotted any damage to the wiring, and it looks like the windshield is the original one. What difference would that make?

Sometimes bubbles can form under the gel pad of the sensor, particularly on older, original windshields. This interferes with the sensor's readings. I'd recommend getting it checked at a workshop.

Thanks for the tip! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. It was bubbles under the gel pad. They replaced the sensor, and now everything's working fine. Cost me 62€.
