C2 Gear Selection Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Citroen C2 owner is experiencing issues with the gear selection display and difficulties with gear engagement, including implausible shifting, slippage, unclean shifts, and grinding noises. These problems, which appeared suddenly and affect all gears, suggest a potential sensor issue. However, it is concluded that the control unit is likely defective, requiring professional repair.

The problem is consistent across all gears and appeared suddenly. Could it possibly be an issue with the digital display itself rather than the gearbox?

Given that it appeared suddenly and affects all gears, and considering the gear selection display is also malfunctioning, it's plausible the control unit is defective. This unfortunately sounds like a trip to the workshop. It is similar to when your home electronics no longer work due to an old motherboard.

I appreciate the advice. It seems my fears are justified. The workshop confirmed a defective control unit, and the repair will cost around 1000€. Thank you for your help.

It certainly sounds like something is amiss with your Citroen's transmission. Have you noticed if the issue is consistent across all gears, or does it seem to be more prominent in certain ones? Also, has the issue appeared suddenly, or developed gradually over time, like an engine running rougher as spark plugs age?
