C3 EGR Valve Symptoms
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Citroen C3 diesel with 123,674 km is experiencing symptoms such as reduced power, check engine light, black smoke during acceleration, rough running, high fuel consumption, jerking, and a hissing sound, which suggest a faulty EGR valve. Black smoke indicates unburnt fuel, often linked to EGR issues affecting the air/fuel mixture. A workshop diagnostic confirmed the EGR valve defect, leading to its replacement.

The smoke is definitely black, not blue. Does this point more to the EGR valve, or could there be other causes to investigate before assuming it's only the EGR?

Black smoke suggests unburnt fuel, which an EGR issue can cause by messing with the air/fuel mixture. Given all your symptoms, it still sounds like the EGR valve to me. I took mine to a trusted workshop, and they confirmed it quickly. Best to have them check it out!

I followed your suggestion and took the car to a workshop. The diagnostic confirmed a defective EGR valve. The total repair cost including parts and labor came to 355€. Thanks again for your help.

Interesting. I had similar symptoms on my C3, though with less mileage. Check engine light, rough idle, and the hissing sound especially. Was the smoke black or bluish? That might tell you something.
