C3 Overheating Check Engine Light
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Citroen C3 diesel was experiencing overheating and a check engine light, possibly due to a defective radiator fan or speed sensor. The problem was suspected to be related to the thermal switch or other components affecting the engine cooling system. After consulting a technician, it was confirmed that the speed sensor was defective, causing the radiator fan to malfunction. Replacing the speed sensor resolved the issue.

A thermal switch? I hadn't considered that. Do you have any further information regarding the location and accessibility of this component within the engine bay? Could it be causing the check engine light as well?

The thermal switch is near the radiator. However, since your check engine light is on, and considering the mileage, I would take it to a workshop for diagnostics. It could save you time and money. It sounds familiar, and you don't want to risk further damage, do you?

Following your suggestion, I consulted a technician, who confirmed the speed sensor was defective, leading to the radiator fan malfunction. A replacement at a cost of 250€ has rectified the issue entirely. Many thanks!

Does the radiator fan not turn on at all, or does it run constantly? I had similar overheating problems with my C3. Turned out to be the thermal switch. Is that a possibility in your case?
