C30 Clutch Pedal Switch Problems

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2010 Volvo C30 diesel. It's got 112883 km on the clock and I'm getting some weird symptoms. I've got an error stored, the gear selection isn't showing in the speedo, cruise control is dead, and sometimes it won't start at all! From what I've read, it sounds like it could be a bad clutch pedal switch – maybe a dodgy connection? Anyone else had this?

I had similar issues on my C30. The symptoms you describe – error codes, gear selection display issues, cruise control failure and intermittent starting problems – all point towards a faulty clutch switch. The clutch switch, or clutch pedal position sensor, is a safety switch that tells the car's computer when the clutch pedal is depressed. This is needed for starting the engine and for functions like cruise control. Have you checked the wiring and plug to the switch itself?

Thanks for the quick reply! I've had a quick look at the wiring, and it seems okay visually, but I don't have a multimeter to properly test it. Where exactly is the clutch switch located? Is it easy enough to get to and inspect the plug connection properly?

Yeah, the visual check isn't always enough; the wires can be damaged inside the insulation. The clutch switch is usually located right at the top of the clutch pedal, where the pedal arm pivots. You'll probably have to get your head down in the footwell to see it clearly. If you're not comfortable doing electrical testing, it might be worth taking it to a workshop. My issue ended up being a corroded connector, and it was a pain to diagnose without the right tools.

Thanks! I appreciate the advice. I took it to a local independent workshop, and they confirmed it was indeed the clutch pedal switch and a defective cable. They quoted me 95€ including parts and labor. Picking it up tomorrow!
