C30 Rail Pressure Sensor Issue

Hey, my 2011 Volvo C30 with a gasoline engine is giving me fits! The check engine light is on, and it stalls at idle sometimes. Plus, the engine power feels reduced. My code reader says it's a faulty rail pressure sensor signal. Could a bad sensor really cause all this?

Indeed, a faulty rail pressure sensor can trigger those symptoms. The engine control unit uses that signal to manage fuel delivery. An incorrect signal can lead to poor engine performance, stalling, and the check engine light illuminating. It's like a doctor misdiagnosing a patient – the wrong information leads to the wrong treatment. Have you observed any fuel leaks or unusual noises from the fuel pump?

No leaks or strange noises that I've noticed. So, if the sensor's sending bad info, is it likely the sensor itself is just plain broken?

It is highly probable that the sensor is defective. Think of it as a faulty thermometer giving you the wrong temperature reading. While there could be a wiring issue, the sensor itself is the more common culprit. Given the symptoms and error code, I would advise consulting a qualified mechanic for diagnosis and repair.

Thanks for the insight! I took it to a workshop. Turned out to be exactly what you said – a faulty pressure sensor! Cost me 240€ to get it replaced, but now it runs like new again. Appreciate the help!
