C30 Stiff Steering Vibration
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Volvo C30 diesel is experiencing stiff steering and steering wheel vibration, suggesting a potential power steering failure. The issue may be linked to the steering angle sensor, which could affect electronic stability or traction control systems. A diagnosis confirmed a problem with the steering angle sensor, specifically faulty coding, and recalibrating the sensor was recommended as a solution.

You mention faulty coding. Could you elaborate on how that manifested in your BMW? Were the symptoms constant, or intermittent? Did it affect other systems?

Sure, for me it was intermittent at first, then became constant. I didn't notice any other systems affected, but the stability control light would come on sometimes. I'd suggest having a workshop check the sensor coding and alignment, rather than trying to fix this yourself.

I appreciate the recommendation. An automotive sensor issue with the steering angle sensor was diagnosed, specifically faulty coding as the likely cause. Recalibrating the sensor cost 195€.

Hey, that sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my old BMW 3 Series, although the steering wasn't vibrating as much, more like jerky. Have you checked if there are any error codes showing up? Faulty coding can cause all sorts of weird issues. It could also be a sensor replacement issue.
