C30 System Readiness Check Issue
Summary of the thread
A Volvo C30 owner experienced an incomplete system readiness check and a speedometer error message after using an OBD2 scanner. The issue arose because clearing error codes with the OBD2 device reset the system readiness flags, which are necessary for emissions testing. The suggested solution was to drive the car to allow the system to rerun its tests and reset the readiness flags. After a short drive, the error disappeared, resolving the issue without needing a workshop visit.

I didn't attempt any modifications, just reading error codes. Is it possible the OBD2 device reset the system readiness?

That's correct. Clearing codes on a Volvo C30 also resets all system readiness 'flags'. These flags are specific tests the car runs to ensure the emissions systems are working correctly. You need to drive the car for the computer to run these tests again; clearing the error memory was unnecessary. Have you considered a certified workshop?

I appreciate the clarification. I understand I have to drive the car so the monitors are set to 'ready'. After a short drive today, the error disappeared, just as you described. Thank you for your input; I saved 0€ on unnecessary workshop costs.

I also own a C30 and had a similar issue after using an OBD2 scanner, specifically the system readiness status failing. The car runs fine, but it likely won't pass emissions with the check engine light on. Were you doing any modifications, or just reading the error codes?
