C30 Undervoltage Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Volvo C30 diesel is experiencing undervoltage issues, characterized by poor starting, system failures, and weak lights. The problem is suspected to be caused by a heavily discharged or defective battery. It is suggested to check the alternator output and the charging system, including the voltage regulator, as these could also cause similar symptoms. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by replacing the defective battery.

Thanks for the quick reply! How did you diagnose the alternator issue? Did you measure the battery voltage while the engine was running, or was there another telltale sign?

I started with a voltage test, but honestly, the erratic system behavior pointed me towards a charging problem. Given the symptoms you described, it's worth having a workshop take a look. Could be a dodgy voltage regulator.

You were spot on. Took it to a shop, and it was indeed the battery being defective and heavily discharged. New one and it's resolved. Repair cost 290€ Thanks for the advice!

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues on my C30. Have you checked the alternator output? Low voltage there could definitely cause those symptoms. It's worth a look at the charging system, including the voltage regulator.
