C4 Transmission Fault
Summary of the thread
The 2013 Citroen C4 is experiencing transmission issues, including warning lights, rough gear changes, and grinding noises. The problem is identified as a fault with the transmission oil temperature sensor, potentially caused by low gearbox oil levels. It is suggested to check and top up the gearbox oil, as low levels can lead to overheating and sensor errors. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by replacing the faulty sensor and topping up the oil, costing 365€.

Thanks for the tip! I haven't checked the gearbox oil level yet. Is it easy to do on the C4? And would low oil really cause the temperature sensor to throw an error?

On my Megane it wasn't too difficult, but I'm not sure about the C4 specifically. And yes, low oil can definitely cause overheating problems and trigger the temperature sensor. If it's running low, the sensor will report values out of range. I ended up taking mine to a workshop to get it sorted properly. Might be a good idea for you too.

Okay, I understand. Thanks for the advice. I'll check the oil level, but I think I'll also take it to a workshop to be on the safe side. It was exactly what you said, gearbox oil level too low and a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. Cost me 365€ including parts and labor to replace the sensor and top up the oil. Really appreciate your help!

Sounds similar to an issue I had with my old Renault Megane. Same symptoms, warning lights, rough shifting. In my case, it turned out to be a low gearbox oil level. Have you checked that?
