C5 Active Hood Fault

I have a 2002 Citroen C5 with a gasoline engine and 246073 km. I’m getting an 'Active hood fault' message and the airbag light is on. Diagnostics show an error, and the active hood actuators have triggered. I suspect the acceleration sensor. Any similar experiences?

I had something similar on my C5. That active hood system is supposed to pop the hood up a bit in a frontal collision. If you're getting the error and the airbag light, plus the actuators already went off, it could be the sensor thinking you already hit something. Double check the sensor connections before you dig deep.

When you say 'sensor connections,' are you referring to the physical connectors, or are there specific data parameters I should be monitoring with a diagnostic tool to ascertain the sensor's functionality? Also, did your actuators trigger, or did you have the warning without that occurring?

Both, really. Check the connectors for corrosion or damage first. If they look good, then a diagnostic check to see if the sensor is sending a plausible signal is the next step. Also in my case I had to replace the actuators and sensor unfortunately.

Understood, I appreciate the clarification. I will inspect the connections and sensor data as you suggested. Considering your experience, I'll prepare myself for a potential workshop visit. Indeed the acceleration sensor was the problem and the price was 315€. Thank you for your help!
