Interesting! When you say 'dodgy connection,' was it obviously corroded or damaged, or was it more subtle? I gave it a quick look, but maybe I need to get the magnifying glass out. Any specific areas on the connector I should be focusing on?

With my BMW, the connector looked fine at first glance, but closer inspection revealed a slightly bent pin inside the connector itself. It wasn't making consistent contact. Because of safety concerns, I would suggest visiting a workshop to avoid timing issues or a stalling engine when you least expect it.

Thanks for the tip! I took your advice and brought it to my workshop. Turns out the cable to the sensor did have damaged pins. They supplied and fitted a new sensor with a new cable for 95€ I really appreciate the insight!

That sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my old BMW 3 Series – stalling engine, check engine light, the works. Turned out to be a dodgy connection to the camshaft position sensor. Have you tried wiggling the connector while the engine's running? If the engine stutters or dies, that pretty much confirms it's the connector or wiring.
