C6 Key Battery Warning

Hi, I'm having a strange issue with my 2007 Citroen C6 diesel. The display keeps showing a "key battery low" warning. Keyless access no longer works, and I've got an error stored in the memory. Unlocking or locking the car is also unreliable now. I'm suspecting a simple fob battery issue, but at 142446 km I'm wondering if something else could be draining it so quickly. Any thoughts?

Low battery warning? Seriously? I had almost the same problem with my C6. I thought it was something more complex, like the car's battery. Are you sure it's just the key?

Absolutely sure? No, but that's my initial thought based on the symptoms. You experienced the same loss of keyless entry and unreliable locking/unlocking?

Yes, exactly those symptoms! I changed the key battery, and it worked for a week, then back to 'low battery'. Turns out, in my case, the key electronics had a short circuit. I'm just saying, don't be too surprised if it ends up being more than a simple battery swap! I recommend letting your workshop take a look.

Okay, thanks for the heads-up! I'll try the battery first, but I'll keep the short circuit in mind if the problem persists. I went to the workshop and you were right. They replaced the key electronics, including the battery. Total cost 37€. Thanks again for the input!
