C6 Oil Contamination

I've got a 2018 Citroen C6 with a gasoline engine, about 110k clicks on the clock. Lately, I've been getting a warning light and the oil pressure warning lamp seems to think it's a disco. I'm pretty sure it's related to oil contamination. I've checked the dipstick and the oil looks not the lovely golden brown it should be. Think I might have stretched the maintenance interval a tad too far. Anyone else seen this before? I'm dreading what this might mean for the engine.

I had a similar scare with my C6. Same symptoms, oil pressure light and all. Have you checked the oil filter? When was the last time you changed it? Also, what oil additives are you using, if any? I once used a dodgy additive that totally gunked things up.

Good shout on the filter! I did change it last service, but that was maybe 15k km ago. As for additives, nothing added recently, but I did use some 'engine cleaner' additive about 30k km ago, before the last oil change. Could that stuff still be causing issues this far down the line?

Hmm, 30k km is a long time, but those engine cleaner additives can sometimes loosen deposits that then clog things up later. Honestly, with those symptoms, and given the oil color you described, it's probably best to get it checked by a workshop. Could be something as simple as a blocked oilway, but better safe than sorry when it comes to engine damage.

Thanks for the advice! Turns out, it was indeed the extended maintenance interval causing major oil contamination. Fresh oil and filter change sorted it right out and set me back 165€. Lesson learned, I'll be sticking to the schedule religiously from now on!
