C70 Automatic Transmission Stuck
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Volvo C70 is experiencing an issue where the automatic transmission is stuck in park, the engine won't start, and the check engine light is on, with recent slipping and rough shifting. The problem may be related to a faulty control unit or transmission sensor. Suggested solutions include checking the shift lock, attempting to start the car in neutral, and consulting a workshop to diagnose and potentially repair the transmission, focusing on the gear shifter and transmission sensor.

Thanks for the quick reply. The shift lock seems to be functioning normally - I can depress it. I also tried starting the car in neutral but no luck. Any chance your issue involved similar symptoms before it completely failed? I'm trying to gauge how urgent this is.

Yes, absolutely! I remember now. The slipping and rough shifting are what really tipped me off. I ignored them at first, but then one day, bam! Wouldn't start. Best to get it checked at a good workshop, a transmission repair can be expensive. They'll probably check the gear shifter and transmission sensor, and see whether the fault is stored in the error memory.

Appreciate you confirming the similarities. Looks like a trip to the workshop is inevitable. Thanks for the advice, it's good to know what to expect.

Oh wow, that sounds familiar! I have a C70 too, and I had something similar happen. I'm no expert, but did you check the shift lock? Sometimes that gets stuck and prevents you from starting the car if the system thinks you aren't fully in park. It basically stops you moving out of park without pressing the brake pedal. Also, is your neutral position working? You might be able to start the car in neutral. Could be a faulty transmission sensor telling the car it's not really in park.
