C70 Brake Light Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Volvo C70 owner experienced brake light failure and an error message related to the brake light switch. Despite checking the bulbs, the issue persisted, leading to speculation that the switch might be faulty. A suggestion was made to clean the switch contacts, but the problem was resolved when the owner realized their foot was slightly pressing the brake pedal, causing the error.

Thanks! I hadn't thought of that. Where exactly is the brake light switch located? I've had a quick look, but can't seem to find it. And is it easy enough to get at? I'm no expert mechanic, but I'm happy to give it a go.

It's usually located up near the brake pedal arm, under the dash. Access can be a bit tight depending on the car. Given it's throwing an error, the switch itself might actually be faulty. Could be worth a workshop visit with the Volvo, I ended up having to replace mine in the end!

Turns out my foot was ever so slightly touching the brake pedal. Moved my position and the errors have gone! So, a lazy resolution, and at a cost of 0€. Thanks for your help, I really appreciated it!

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my old BMW 3 Series. Same symptoms: brake lights dead and an error code. Have you tried cleaning the contacts on the brake light switch? Sometimes it's just a bit of corrosion causing the problem.
