C70 Engine Overheating

Having trouble with my 2005 Volvo C70 with a gasoline engine. Engine overheating lately, and it's taking much longer than usual to reach operating temperature. Coolant levels are fine and the cooling fan seems to be working. Could this be related to the thermostat cooling circuit motor? I suspect a defective map thermostat. Anyone else experienced something similar with their C70?

I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 Series. Not sure if it's the same, but my engine was also overheating, and it was slow to warm up. Did you check if your radiator is getting hot, even when the engine is cold? That was a sign of a stuck thermostat for me.

Thanks for the insight! That's a good point about the radiator. I haven't checked that specifically. If the radiator is getting hot when the engine is cold, does that definitively point to a thermostat issue, or could there be other causes as well? I want to be sure before I start tearing things apart.

Yeah, in my case it was the thermostat. But it could also be other parts of the cooling system, like the water pump or a sensor. However, if your symptoms are identical, I'd say the thermostat is the most likely culprit. Since you are not 100% sure, I'd recommend having a workshop take a quick look at it. They can diagnose it properly.

Thanks! I appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll check the radiator temperature as you suggested and will take it to a workshop. I think you're right, it's best to have a professional diagnose the problem to be absolutely sure. I'll let you know what the solution is, hopefully it's just the thermostat!
