C70 Jerking Acceleration and Power Loss

Hey, I'm having some serious issues with my 2006 Volvo C70 diesel. It's got about 212141 km on it. Lately, it's been jerking when I accelerate, the check engine light is on, and I've noticed a real drop in engine power. Plus, the engine sometimes stalls at idle and runs really rough. Oh, and there's this strong exhaust smell too. I scanned it, and it's showing an error. Could it be the intake manifold? I've read that scorching can cause a gasket leak there. Is that a thing?

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Volvo C70 diesel was experiencing jerking during acceleration, power loss, engine stalling, rough idling, and a strong exhaust smell, with the check engine light on. The error code indicated an issue with manifold pressure, suggesting a potential intake manifold leak, possibly due to a gasket failure. After consulting, it was confirmed that the intake manifold was defective and leaking, leading to its replacement, which resolved the issues.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds like it could be the intake manifold, yeah. Is the error code related to manifold pressure? If so, a leak there would definitely explain the rough running and power loss. Have you checked for any obvious cracks or hissing sounds around the manifold area?

The error code does mention manifold pressure. I haven't seen any cracks, but I haven't really listened for hissing. Where exactly should I be listening? Is there a particular spot on the manifold that's known for leaking?

It's tough to pinpoint the exact spot without a smoke test, but generally, check around where the manifold seals to the engine head. A failing gasket there is common. Given the symptoms and the error code, I'd say it's worth getting it checked out by a workshop. Could be other things, but that manifold is a prime suspect.

Thanks a bunch for the advice! I took it to the shop, and you were spot on. Turns out the intake manifold was defective and leaking. They replaced it, and it cost me about 1180€, but now it's running like a champ again. Appreciate the help!
