C70 Rear Window Heating Malfunction

My 2010 Volvo C70 diesel has a rear window heating malfunction and the front isn't performing as well. I checked for error codes and found one related to this system. Has anyone else experienced similar problems? Any advice on troubleshooting before I take it to a workshop?

I had a similar issue with my old Audi A4. Same symptoms, rear window demister packed in and the front wasn't great either. Turned out to be a battery issue, but have you checked the relevant fuses for the rear window heater? Always worth a quick look before diving deeper.

Thanks, I will check the fuses first. Can you elaborate on the battery issue you experienced with your Audi? Was the battery simply old, or were there other factors involved, such as a parasitic draw or a faulty alternator?

Yeah, the battery was heavily discharged and probably defective. I didn't bother testing it too much, just swapped it out. I suspect the cold weather finished it off. However, given that you have error codes, going to a workshop is probably the best option anyway. They can properly diagnose it.

Thanks for sharing your experience and advice. I suspected it might be something related to the electrical system. Now that you mention the battery, it makes sense to have that checked as well. After the diagnosis, it was indeed a defective battery, which was causing the rear window heating to malfunction. The repair cost was around 290€.
