C70 temperature reading issues

My 2009 Volvo C70 with a gasoline engine occasionally shows incorrect temperature readings, and the check engine light is on. The engine takes a long time to warm up. The car has 197876 km. I suspect a restricted cooling grille, maybe a defective fuse if this model has one. Anyone else seen this?

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Volvo C70 is experiencing incorrect temperature readings and a delayed engine warm-up, with the check engine light on. Possible causes include a restricted cooling grille or a defective fuse. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by addressing a faulty thermostat and a clogged radiator. A professional diagnostic assessment is recommended to accurately identify and resolve the issue, which in this case was a defective fuse related to thermal management.

That sounds frustrating! I had a similar problem with my old BMW 3 series. The temperature gauge was all over the place, and the engine took forever to warm up, especially in colder weather. It ended up being a faulty thermostat and a clogged radiator. Have you checked those, or just the grille?

Thanks! I've mainly looked at the cooling grille because of debris. Can you explain how you diagnosed the issue in your BMW? What tests or observations led you to that?

After checking for leaks, which I didn't find, I took it to a workshop. They ran diagnostics and found the thermostat was stuck open, preventing the engine from warming up. They also pressure-tested the cooling system and found a blockage in the radiator. Given your symptoms and mileage, it might be worth getting a professional diagnosis. It could save time and headaches.

I appreciate your insights. I will schedule a comprehensive diagnostic assessment with a qualified technician. It needed a professional evaluation to determine the cause and fix it. It was a defective fuse related to thermal management and the total repair cost was 52€.
