C70 Transmission Sensor Error
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Volvo C70 exhibited engine and transmission warning lights, with diagnostic results indicating an error in the transmission oil temperature sensor. The vehicle experienced slippage, unclean shifting, and grinding, suggesting it was in emergency mode. The issue was attributed to a low transmission oil level, which led to incorrect sensor readings. Refilling the transmission oil and replacing the sensor resolved the problem.

Thanks. Could you explain how to check the transmission oil level? I want to make sure I do it right, since I'm not that familiar with car maintenance.

Well, on the Peugeot, there was a dipstick for the transmission fluid, just like the engine oil. Check your Volvo's manual; it should show you where it is and how to check the level. Honestly, though, if it's grinding, it might be best to get it checked by a workshop. Could save you bigger problems later.

Thanks for the advice. I consulted a technician. The transmission oil level was low, causing the sensor to give bad readings. A refill and sensor replacement fixed it. The total cost was 365€.

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my old Peugeot 307 (diesel). Engine light came on, and the gears felt like they were fighting each other. I'm no expert, but could also be just a faulty sensor throwing everything off? Did you check the transmission oil level? That's where I started.
