C70 Water Sensor Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Volvo C70 with a diesel engine is experiencing a check engine light due to a water sensor malfunction, accompanied by rough engine performance. The initial inspection suggests a potential electrical fault. The solution involved checking the sensor's wiring harness for damage or corrosion, and verifying the voltage at the sensor connector. Ultimately, a bad connection in the plug was identified and cleaned, resolving the issue and restoring smooth engine operation.

Good shout on the voltage. I'll check that. Where's the best place to find the correct voltage values for that particular sensor? I want to make sure I'm testing against the right spec.

Unfortunately, without knowing the specific sensor part number, it's tricky to give you an exact voltage reading. However, the Bentley manual usually has detailed wiring diagrams and voltage specifications, if you have access to that, otherwise a workshop should be able to help you with the correct specs. Based on your description of the fault, a faulty cable or plug connection sounds plausible, and it's likely to be the issue, which confirms the diagnosis of the error memory.

Voltage check confirmed it. Bad connection in the plug, as suspected. Cleaned it up, reset the error code, and it seems to be running smoothly now. Cost me 95€ for the cleaning. Appreciate the help!

Rough running and a water sensor error code do sound like an electrical issue. Have you checked the sensor's wiring harness for any damage or corrosion? Sometimes, a loose or corroded connection can cause intermittent faults and trigger the check engine light. Also, have you checked the voltage at the sensor connector to ensure it's getting power?
