C8 Check Engine Light and Exhaust Leak

The catalytic converter hasn't been mentioned. Could a bad exhaust temperature sensor damage the catalytic converter? I'm trying to understand how these parts affect each other.

A bad sensor could affect the catalytic converter over time, but my problem was an exhaust leak near the sensor. Debris and bad temperature readings made the ECU throw errors and adjust the fuel mixture wrong. A workshop should inspect it. They can find the leak and check the sensor. My bill was around 265€ after replacing the sensor and fixing a small hole.

Thanks for the help. I'll get the exhaust and sensor checked soon. Your explanation of how the exhaust parts and ECU work together was helpful. I realize that sensor replacement is not a complex topic, but your help allowed me to see the light. If I knew that the diagnostic of the repair shop would confirm a leak in the exhaust system, near the temperature sensor, I would have never posted to the car forum. Thanks anyway!

I had something similar with my C8, though I don't remember the exact year. Check engine light, power loss, and higher fuel consumption sounds familiar. Has the garage said anything about the catalytic converter or exhaust?
