C8 Engine Stalling Fuel Pump

Hello, I have a 2003 Citroen C8 with a gasoline engine. The engine won't start sometimes, and when it does, it occasionally stalls at idle. The check engine light is also on, and the engine runs rough. Fuel consumption seems higher than usual, and the error memory has a stored error. Mileage is at 95101 km. Could it be the fuel pump?

Summary of the thread

The conversation centers around a 2003 Citroen C8 experiencing engine starting issues, stalling at idle, rough running, and increased fuel consumption, with the check engine light on. These symptoms suggest a potential fuel pump problem, possibly due to corroded or loose electrical connections. Checking and securing the pump's connector is advised, but professional inspection and repair may be necessary to resolve the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had similar problems with my C8, though mine is a bit newer. Those symptoms could definitely point to a fuel pump issue. The stalling and rough running, especially coupled with the engine light and consumption increase, sounds familiar. Ever checked the pump's electrical connections? It's like a loose wire on a Christmas light – everything flickers or goes out completely.

Thanks for the info. You mentioned the electrical connections. Could you elaborate? What exactly should I be looking for when checking them?

Sure thing. The pump's connector can sometimes corrode or simply loosen over time. Give the connector a good look, check for any signs of corrosion, and make sure it's firmly seated. If it looks dodgy, that's likely your culprit. But without proper tools, it's like guessing the weather; you might be close, but you won't really know. I just took mine to a shop. They found a bad connection and charged me 95€ to fix it.

Appreciate the advice! I'll take a close look at the connections, but it sounds like a trip to the workshop might be the best bet. I was told similar issues could be rooted in bad wiring to the fuel pump, or issues with the connector, leading to the pump not working correctly. I will report back after I have taken it to the shop. They fixed it!
