Thanks for the detailed responses. After visiting the workshop yesterday at 149248km, they found the air suspension compressor had indeed failed completely. The load leveling system shows multiple faults. The mechanic pressure tested the system and discovered leaks in both rear air struts as well. Looking at about 850€ for a complete fix including: New suspension pump, Two rear air struts, Labor for testing and replacement, System calibration Going ahead with the full repair since all suspension components are original and showing their age. Better to address everything while its apart rather than face more issues down the road.

Glad you got a proper diagnosis. I was fortunate my issue was just electrical, but air struts often need replacement at higher mileages like yours. The price seems reasonable for the work needed. After my initial electrical fix, I actually ended up replacing both front air struts about 20000km later when they started leaking. The suspension pump was still working fine though. Total cost then was around 750€. One tip from my experience: make sure they check the front struts thoroughly while doing the rear ones. Air leaks can be tricky to spot and often affect multiple components over time. Also worth having them verify the ride height sensors are calibrated correctly after the repair to prevent any warning lights from returning. The full system overhaul should give you many more trouble-free kilometers. Just keep an ear out for unusual compressor noise in the future, thats usually the first sign of developing issues with the suspension pump.

Confirmed -: Thanks for sharing those details about your air strut repairs. My mechanic just called with an update, they pressure tested the front struts as suggested and actually found a small leak developing in the passenger side. Adding that to the repair list brings the total to 1150€, but I agree its worth fixing everything properly at once. The ride height and load leveling problems were definitely getting worse over the last few weeks. The suspension compressor was running way more frequently than normal before it failed completely. At least now I know the warning signs to watch for in the future. Really appreciate the tip about listening for unusual compressor sounds. The mechanic mentioned theyll do a full calibration of all suspension components and height sensors after everything is installed. Should have the car back tomorrow with proper ride height restored and those headlight alignment issues sorted out.

Having dealt with a similar issue on my 2007 VW Golf, I can share some relevant experience about air suspension problems. I noticed identical symptoms, uneven ride height and misaligned headlights. After initial diagnosis, it turned out a loose connection at the wiring harness was causing the compressor malfunction. The workshop found corroded terminals where the control module connects to the compressor. The fix involved cleaning the connections, replacing the damaged wiring section and testing the system. Total cost was 95€ for parts and labor. No need to replace any air suspension components in my case, though they did inspect the air lines for potential air leaks while the system was apart. Quick note, with some basic car repair experience, I would recommend having them check: All air line connections for leaks, Condition of the height sensors, Electrical connections at the compressor, Overall state of suspension components To provide more specific guidance: What warning lights are you seeing on the dash? Also, did the problem develop gradually or suddenly? This info would help determine if youre dealing with a similar electrical issue or potentially more extensive repairs.
