Thanks for sharing your experience with the XT5 alternator issue. Mine has been running great since the charging system repair, but I am curious about the long-term results. Have you encountered any related electrical problems since the alternator replacement? The voltage drop issue you mentioned matches exactly what my mechanic found. Also, if you do not mind sharing, what was the total cost for your repair? My SRX needed the belt tensioner replaced along with the alternator since they were already accessing that area. Just wondering if that is a common additional expense others have faced.

After getting the generator replaced last year, the charging system has worked flawlessly. The initial voltage drop issues completely disappeared once the faulty generator was fixed. The repair cost me 960€ total, which included labor and parts. The car electronics are all functioning normally now, no more dim lights, warning indicators, or battery low alerts. My mechanic did a thorough inspection of the serpentine belt and tensioner during the repair, but luckily those components were still in good condition and did not need replacement in my case. Having dealt with both vehicles, it seems electrical issues often show similar symptoms when the charging system starts failing. Regular voltage checks can help catch these problems early before they lead to a complete engine misfire or electrical failure. For peace of mind, I still monitor the voltage readings occasionally, but have not seen any concerning fluctuations since the repair. The stable 14V output shows the new generator is working exactly as it should.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. I took my SRX to a mechanic last week and wanted to share how it went. The diagnosis confirmed the alternator was failing, output was only at 11.5V. Ended up paying 890€ for the complete repair. They replaced the alternator, tensioner, and belt since everything was already exposed. Labor took about 5 hours total because they had to remove several components to access the alternator properly. The car runs perfectly now. All the warning lights are gone, headlights are bright again, and the starter motor engages strongly every time. The mechanic did a thorough job testing the charging system afterward to confirm everything was working correctly. The repair cost more than I initially hoped, but it was worth fixing properly rather than risk getting stranded with a complete electrical failure. Really glad I caught the alternator issue before it caused problems with other car electronics or left me stuck somewhere. Looking back, the symptoms were classic signs of charging system problems, the dim lights and sluggish engine performance were definitely from the failing alternator. Good learning experience for catching these issues early in the future.

Had similar issues with my 2016 Cadillac XT5 last winter. The symptoms you describe match my experience exactly, dim lights, multiple warning indicators, and the starter motor struggling. Initially thought it was just a battery low situation, but testing revealed a failing alternator. The root cause was the alternator not properly charging the battery, leading to car electronics running on reduced power. This affects everything from the radio to the engine control unit. The serpentine belt was also showing wear, which contributed to poor alternator performance. The repair involved replacing both the alternator and belt as a preventive measure. This was absolutely a serious issue that needed immediate attention, continuing to drive risks complete electrical failure and potential engine misfire due to compromised ignition system power. Diagnosis showed the alternator was only producing 11.2V instead of the required 13.8-14.2V. This is a common failure point for these models around 100k km. The repair took about 4 hours in total, and the car has been running perfectly since then with stable electrical output. Would strongly recommend getting it checked soon, as driving with a failing alternator can leave you stranded and potentially damage other electrical components.
