Camaro transmission issues
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Chevrolet Camaro experienced transmission issues, including slipping, rough shifting, and grinding noises, with an engine warning light indicating a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. The suspected cause was low gearbox oil, which was confirmed upon inspection. The solution involved topping up the gearbox oil and replacing the sensor, resolving the transmission problems.

I haven't checked the fluid level recently. How critical is it to verify the oil level before doing anything else? Could the sensor itself just be faulty, regardless of the oil level?

Low fluid is the most common cause, and cheaper than a new sensor. A faulty sensor is possible, but checking the level is the first step. Considering the symptoms, going to a workshop is likely the best course of action, they'll check the oil level, read out error codes and test the sensor.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and it turned out the gearbox oil level was too low, causing the sensor to give faulty readings. Topped it up and replaced the sensor - cost me 365€ all in. Shifts are smooth again now.

Rough shifting and grinding don't sound good. When was the last time you checked or changed the transmission fluid? If the sensor is faulty because of low fluid, addressing the leak might solve the problem before replacing the sensor. Has it been regularly serviced?
