Camaro VANOS Solenoid Issue

My 2018 Chevrolet Camaro with a gasoline engine has a check engine light and increased fuel consumption after 147447 kilometers. A mechanic suspects a fault in the inlet VANOS mechanics, possibly a camshaft solenoid valve defect or a power supply issue. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem with their Camaro? I am rather worried about this.

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Chevrolet Camaro owner experienced a check engine light and increased fuel consumption, with a mechanic suspecting a fault in the inlet VANOS mechanics, possibly due to a camshaft solenoid valve defect or a power supply issue. Another Camaro owner shared a similar experience, attributing the problem to the VANOS solenoid, which caused engine misfires and rough performance. The suggested solution was to have the vehicle checked by a knowledgeable workshop, which led to the identification and repair of the VANOS solenoid issue, resolving the problem.

Hey man, I've got a Camaro too, though not the same year. I had almost the same thing happen. Check engine light popped on, and I swear I was filling up the gas tank twice as often. VANOS solenoid was the culprit for me, causing what felt like engine misfires. Any chance you've been skipping oil changes? Could be some sludge buildup.

That sounds eerily similar to what I am experiencing. Could you elaborate on the 'VANOS solenoid' issue? Did you observe any other symptoms besides the check engine light and increased fuel consumption? I have been adhering to the recommended intervals, but I will certainly double-check my records. Any further insights you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

No worries, happy to help. Besides the light and the gas guzzling, the engine just felt a little rough, especially at lower RPMs. Wasn't a smooth ride like it used to be. I'd say get it checked out by a good workshop that knows their way around a Camaro. They should be able to pinpoint the exact problem with the VANOS system. Could save you some headaches.

I took your advice and brought my Camaro to a trusted workshop. As you suggested, the issue was indeed related to the VANOS solenoid. The repair cost came to approximately 250€, but it was worth it to have my Camaro running smoothly again. Thank you once again for sharing your experience and guiding me towards a solution.
