Camry EGR Valve Issue

I'm at my wit's end. My 2017 Toyota Camry Hybrid is giving me fits. I've got nearly 200k km on it (195587 to be exact) and recently the check engine light popped on. Now it's running rough, struggles to accelerate, and belches out smoke when I put my foot down. Plus, the fuel consumption is terrible, and it feels like it's jerking. There's this weird hissing sound too. I'm thinking it might be the EGR valve, but I'm not sure.

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my old Opel Astra, a 2014 diesel. Reduced engine power and the check engine light were the first signs for me. Have you checked vehicle emissions? It could well be the EGR valve stuck open or closed.

Vehicle emissions? Where do I even start with that? Is there any way to test the EGR valve itself without taking everything apart?

I didn't test the EGR valve directly. My mechanic said a faulty valve on the Astra was a common issue. Based on your symptoms with the Camry, it's probably best to get it checked at a workshop. Could save you a lot of time and headache.

Okay, I appreciate the advice! Took it to a mechanic and you were right, it was the EGR valve. Cost me 355€ to replace, but now it's running like new again. Thanks!
